The Latest News From the Trial

Well, the trial is over now. All the witnesses have been called from both sides. And now we wait. Both sides have some more paperwork to submit to the court, then the Judge must make her decision. It could be several months (perhaps October or November) before we find anything out. We'll let everyone know asap as soon as we hear anything.

For a great overview of the trial, check out the article printed in the Lakewood Observer titled Lakewood Hopes Dog Park Will Sit, Stay.

Actually, we've been in the news a lot recently...

Pizza Party Fundraiser

We have decided to have a winter fundraiser. This is a social event for all of us dog owners that love to get together to talk about our dogs but is open to everyone. It will be Saturday, March 27th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Johnny Malloys/Geppetto's at 17103 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood.

The price is $11.00 and includes all of the pizza, pasta, and salad that you can eat for 2 hours along with non-alcoholic beverages. You also have the option of purchasing a bracelet for $5.00 that will get you unlimited refills of Bud Light until the keg is gone. There is of course also a full cash bar for any other beverages that you may wish to order.

We will have door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. I hope that everyone can make it - tell all your friends!

Please purchase your tickets pre-sale if you can. Tickets are available through fundraising volunteers and at The Furry Nation, 15800 Detroit Avenue, in Lakewood and at Johnny Malloy's/Geppetto's, 17103 Detroit Avenue, in Lakewood.

Wet T-Shirt Contest

Ok, I lied - But you could win FREE dog park apparel if you win this year's t-shirt contest.

We are looking for a new design in 2010 for the back of our t-shirts and sweatshirts. In 2009, the slogan said...

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
~Roger Caras
2009

This year we are looking for a new slogan, design, or something else for the back of our apparel - Be Creative!

Just email your entry to topdog@LakewoodDogPark.com along with your name and telephone number so that we can reach you if you win. Entries must be received by the date of our pizza party fundraiser, March 27th. If we get two of the same entries, the first entry we receive will be counted, so get your entries in quickly.

The best entries will be selected and everyone will get to vote in an online poll for the winner!

New Policies Page

We have a new webpage outlining our policies. Right now, we are starting off with one policy about how we handle complaints, but we expect the page to grow in the future.

Paw Prints Newsletter February - May

The February edition of Paw Prints, Lakewood Dog Park's newsletter is now available to view online.

Congratulations to Leashed Dogs in Lakewood Parks!

Congratulations! The proposed ordinance has passed allowing leashed dog walking in 2 Lakewood parks. This is a 12 month pilot program which will begin sometime this spring. Responsible dog owners will be allowed to try out leashed dog walking in Lakewood Park (on Lake Ave. at Belle) and in Kauffman park.

More Info.

Park Thawed - and Cleaned

When the park thaws out, there is usually some impromptu clean up that needs done. What gets buried in the snow makes its way to the surface. Typically, this only happens once in the spring, but recently we had a mid-winter thaw and a few people got together to clean it up. The park looks great thanks to the hard work of these all stars.

Amenities

The Dog Park features a spacious 2/3rd acre fenced lot bordering the Metroparks. It has a gravel surface and five majestic trees that provide shade in the summer. There are two double gated entrances, located on either end of the park, for dog safety. A water fountain is provided with a human-sized spout and a fountain, with a stainless steel bucket liner, at the right height for pups (though water is turned off during the winter season, from mid-October until May). There are 5 Dog Waste Bag stations positioned around the park and there are two pooper scooper rake/pans located near each double gated entrance. There is ample seating with 19 benches located through out the park. There is also a large information kiosk placed west of the entrance gate near the street, please check it when you visit for updates and information regarding the dog park and local events. There are now also 4 Hand Sanitizers to be found around the park.

Small Dog Area

As of April 9th, 2006, we have a small dogs play area for dogs 20 pounds and under. A fence and gate separate it from the rest of the dog park. The Small Dogs Only Play Area has it's own water bowl, toy basket, benches and shade tree. Now your small dog has a place of it's own where he/she won't feel so overwhelmed.
